Preparations have begun for the Tokyo Olympics. Indian athletes have moreover qualified for various sports.

Most strikingly, Indian boxer Amit Panghal will compete in the Olympics as the world's number one boxer. Boxer Amit Panghal has been ranked number one in his category in the recently released rankings by the International Olympic Committee. He is the first Indian boxer to compete in the Olympics who will enter the boxing ring with the number one ranking.

At the 2021 Asian Boxing Championships, Amit Panghal received a strong Rencontre from Olympic champion Joirov Shakhobidin in the 52kg category. After losing the match, Panghal had to settle for a silver medal. However, Panghal questioned the referee's visualization and appealed. His appeal, however, was not accepted.

Speaking of other boxers, Manish Kumar is ranked 18th in the 63kg category, Ashish Kumar is ninth in the 75kg category and Satish Kumar is ninth in the 91kg category. Mary Kom has been ranked seventh in the 51kg category among women. While Simranjit Kaur is ranked fourth in the 60kg category, Lovely's Borgohen is fifth in the 69kg category and Pooja Rani is eighth in the 75kg category.

Thus, a total of five Indian boxers are in the top eight. They will goody from the ranking in the yank at the Olympics. According to the rules, the first eight ranked boxers are expected to whop directly to the quarterfinals. If this happens, these boxers will be entitled to a medal if they win one match.
