Tokyo Olympics: Two athletes in support of Palestine refuse to play against Israeli competitor

New Delhi, July 27, 2021, Tuesday

Echoes of ongoing tensions between Israel and Palestine are also echoing in the Olympics. In the same week, athletes from both countries have refused to compete against Israel at the Tokyo Olympics in support of Palestine.

Algeria's Fathi Norin withdrew her name from the 73kg weight category a week ago. Because he was going to face 27-year-old Israeli competitor Bootbul. Norin made the decision because of ongoing tensions between Israel and Palestine.

He said the decision was made in protest of Israeli atrocities and in support of Palestine. I am ready for this even if I am expelled from the Olympics for this. The one above is watching and he will compensate.

Earlier, Norin had refused to compete in the 2019 judoka  Championships against the same competitor. Even then the judoka  Federation suspended him.

Sudan's Mohammed Rasoul has since refused to play the same judoka game against the Israeli player. Although he did not give a reason for this, speculation is that the apostle may have made the decision in support of Palestine.
